Light rain falls, the streets are empty, only a few solitary umbrellas move slowly. The phone screen displays news of Ethereum's plummet, with account balances reduced to three digits. The desolation outside intertwines with personal despair.
I am unwilling to accept this failure.
From a small-town student to Wuhan University, then to a graduate program at the University of Hong Kong, every step was hard-earned. Yet now, I am nearly bankrupt, with nothing left.
Last year, I quit my job, taking 200,000 yuan of savings accumulated over a year and a half to dive into the cryptocurrency field. Initially, everything was great: monitoring the market daily, researching projects, analyzing trends, feeling freer than at work, as if I was fighting for myself. During that time, I made small profits, made friends, and shared opportunities.
From the beginning of the year to the end, things were good, with total profits exceeding 1 million yuan, but I hadn't withdrawn any. In December, the market rhythm changed, and I judged that altcoins would explode, deciding to buy the dip on BOME. I fantasized about replicating PEPE's miracle, buying from 0.008 all the way down to 0.003. This morning's crash led to liquidation, despite the leverage being less than 3 times.
I bet everything, only to see it vanish.
Ironically, I had my parents buy $bome starting at 0.004, averaging down to 0.003, and now it has nearly halved. I can hardly bear my own losses, yet I have dragged my parents down with me, feeling deeply guilty.
This Spring Festival feels like sitting on pins and needles, checking the exchange account drop daily, facing friends and family asking about work, with no confidence. Every day of hard work yields no rewards, life is tough, and I face ridicule from relatives: “After studying so much, you still don’t have a stable job.”
I am confused; who can actually profit on exchanges? After a 5-fold drop, can it drop another 4-fold? New coins launch and drop 4-5 times immediately? In such circumstances, can anyone really make money?
My feelings are complex, unwilling yet lost. I put in effort, but the results are always unsatisfactory. Once passionate goals now feel like paper soaked by rain, blurred and unclear. I don’t know where the road ahead leads, or if I can stand up again.
